The Cosmopolitan Hotel
Little Winter
Digital Installation
Grandpa's model railroad crashes into the DIGITAL Future
Five hand-built dioramas are brought to life in a large-scale film and music installation at The Cosmopolitan. The project is centered in the hotel's lobby: a massive digital/physical experience, and one of the most sophisticated video display systems in the world. The project also spans several hundred other digital displays across the resort including elevators and outdoor marquee.
Five storybook scenes unfold from a daybreak ice fishing scene to a moonlit deep woods quest. Hundreds of non-sequitur characters within the sets create a wonderland of tiny, satirical stories: two sumo wrestlers grapple for supremacy in the snow; a lion tamer summons a nun-in-a-box with a whip; troublesome bears bowl for humans with giant snowballs; A friendly yeti is the lone recurring character in each scene, spreading holiday cheer. An original music score was created, with a different theme for each of the five chapters.
